Why I Stopped Choosing Coaches Based on Price (And Why You Might Want To Do the Same)

Choosing a coach is not about- 

Buying clothes or bags 

I learned one of the most important lessons about pricing of coaches —not in my art studio, not in my dental practice, but while looking for a driving instructor in the UK.

Driving lessons here are expensive, so naturally, I started comparing prices.
Some instructors charged less.
Some charged more.

I was leaning toward the cheaper options… until someone said something that completely shifted my perspective.

“You might save five or ten pounds per lesson,
but a less confident teacher may need ten to twenty extra classes.”

That one sentence changed everything.

Suddenly, price wasn’t just a number anymore—it was connected to results.

The Hidden Cost of “Cheaper” Coaching

A lower price can feel comforting at first.
But if the coach lacks confidence or experience, the learning process often becomes longer, slower, and more exhausting.

More sessions.
More confusion.
More self-doubt.

And in the end, you often spend more than you expected.

What I Look for Now Instead of Price

After that experience, I stopped asking, “How much do they charge?”
And started asking deeper questions:

• How experienced is this coach?
  • How confident do they feel in their teaching?
  • Do I feel safe, supported, and understood?
  • Am I comfortable learning and making mistakes with them?

Because learning—whether it’s driving, painting, or life skills—is deeply emotional.

How This Reflected My Own Coaching Journey

This experience also made me reflect on my own pricing as a teacher.

When I first started teaching, I charged less.
I was learning.
I was growing.
I was building confidence.

As my experience deepened, as my ability to guide students with clarity improved, my prices naturally increased.

Not because I wanted to charge more—but because I was offering more.

One-to-One Attention Has a Different Value

One-to-one sessions require:
• More presence
• More preparation
• More emotional and creative energy

That’s why:
• One-to-one rates are higher
• Small group rates differ
• Large group programs are priced differently

It’s not about hierarchy—it’s about depth of attention.

This Happens Everywhere in Life

A young doctor charges less.
An experienced doctor charges more—
because they work faster, with confidence, and fewer mistakes.

Even with clothes:
Cheaper clothes may look fine at first,
but quality fabrics last longer, feel better, and age gracefully.

I’ve experienced this personally—and the same principle applies to coaching.

A Message for Students

If a coach charges more:
• Appreciate their journey
• Respect their skills
• Feel into the relationship
• Choose based on comfort and trust, not fear

The right coach doesn’t just teach you—
they help you believe in yourself.

So, it should never be on the basis of price but these 2 things-

1. Connection
2. Result- what result you desire and what result they are offering

Your pricing is not greed.
It is communication.

It reflects:
• Your experience
• Your confidence
• Your commitment to results

Charge with clarity.
Charge with honesty.
Charge with self-respect.
